Criticizing reporting standards fails to improve quality in animal research

چکیده
We agree with Bara and Joffe that there is a need for improvement of reporting quality in animal research (AR) [1]. Presenting details on both methods used and potential cofounders during AR is not only important to reproduce results, and to ensure animal welfare (AW) and public support, it is a duty when animals are compromised, stressed or sacrificed to understand diseases or to identify treatment targets. The article addresses important issues, unfortunately without a solution and ignoring personal responsibility. As mentioned, the word count within manuscripts is strictly limited. In Germany and most European countries, the approval procedure for AR includes applications (>6,000 words) covering all analysed readouts: anaesthesia, pain control, euthanasia methods, termination criteria, statistical planning, funding, discussion of reduction, refinement and replacement, and a

[Recommendations for enhancing the quality of traditional Chinese medicine clinical research reporting].
Evidence based medicine (EBM) has drawn the attention of the medical community around the world and is rapidly becoming the standard in medical research. EBM requires both rigorous clinical trial research design, including adequate randomization and appropriate control, and accurate and thorough reporting of the findings of trials. Despite China's active research program, the majority of tradit...

The Gold Standard Publication Checklist (GSPC) for improved design, reporting and scientific quality of animal studies GSPC versus ARRIVE guidelines Hundreds of experiments in which animals are used to answer biomedical research questions are performed and published every month. Although well-designed and performed animal experiments are a necessary condition for successful transla-tional resea...
متن کاملAdherence to the CONSORT Statement in the Reporting of Randomized Controlled Trials on Pharmacological Interventions Published in Iranian Medical Journals
Background: Among manuscripts submitted to biomedical journals, randomized controlled trials (RCTs) form the backbone of evidence-based medicine. Hence, their protocol should be designed rigorously and their results should be reported clearly. To improve the quality of RCT reporting, researchers developed the CONSORT Statement in 1996 and updated it in 2010. This study was designed to assess th...
متن کاملEnhancing the reporting and transparency of rheumatology research: a guide to reporting guidelines
Manuscripts and abstracts from biomedical journals frequently do not contain proper information for meeting required standards and serving the multiple needs of their end users. Reporting guidelines and checklists help researchers to meet those standards by providing rules or principles for specific research areas. Rheumatology research includes a broad range of heterogeneous research areas, ea...
متن کاملTwo Years Later: Journals Are Not Yet Enforcing the ARRIVE Guidelines on Reporting Standards for Pre-Clinical Animal Studies
There is growing concern that poor experimental design and lack of transparent reporting contribute to the frequent failure of pre-clinical animal studies to translate into treatments for human disease. In 2010, the Animal Research: Reporting of In Vivo Experiments (ARRIVE) guidelines were introduced to help improve reporting standards. They were published in PLOS Biology and endorsed by fundin...
